Phinney's Winter Beer Taste Is a House Party in a 1904 Schoolhouse. Here's How to Spend Your Pours.

November 5, 2026

A general admission ticket to the Phinney Neighborhood Association's Winter Beer Taste comes with 10 tastes, and PhinneyWood counts more than 60 pours in the room. So most of what's poured that night, you won't taste. You have to pick.

The 39th annual edition is themed "Brewerama!" after Futurama. It runs Saturday, November 14, from 7 to 10 p.m., with VIP entry at 6 p.m., at the Phinney Center Blue Building, 6532 Phinney Ave N. The PNA calls it Seattle's longest-running beer festival, held inside a former schoolhouse built in 1904. The limit on pours is the main reason it still feels like a neighborhood party and not a crowded beer expo.

Ten tastes in a room of sixty pours

Here's the roster PhinneyWood published for 2026, all 29 names:

  • Aslan, Bale Breaker, Burke-Gilman, Chuckanut, Culture Shock, Dirty Couch, El Sueñito, Fair Isle, Flying Bike, Georgetown
  • Ghostfish, Halcyon, Hellbent, Here Today, Holy Mountain, Ladd & Lass, Lowlander, Lucky Envelope, Obec, Offset Ciderworks
  • Perihelion, Pinball Cider, Reuben's, Rooftop, Seapine, Stoup, Timber Ginger, Urban Family, Yonder

More than 60 pours and 10 tastes works out to roughly one pour in six. The other five go to someone else in the room. The PNA says cider, ginger beer and kombucha makers regularly pour alongside the breweries. PhinneyWood also mentions gluten-free options and other drinks that aren't beer. So even with only ten tastes, you have room to wander outside beer.

At $65, general admission comes to about $6.50 per taste. But the ticket also covers unlimited pub snacks like popcorn, pretzels and cookies, plus a vinyl DJ, a themed photobooth and games. The PNA prices it like an evening out, not a stack of drink tickets.

Why the pours are rationed and the snacks are not

The limit makes more sense once you know how the beer gets into the room. The PNA says the event started almost 40 years ago with a group of friends who loved beer. They went door to door asking breweries to come pour as a donation to the association. In the PNA's words:

"They built this event from the ground up, hitting the pavement and personally inviting (bullying?) breweries to come and pour as a donation to the PNA."

That model still runs the night. The PNA calls the Winter Beer Taste a fundraiser for a grassroots group focused on building community across North Seattle. A volunteer committee picks the theme each year, comes up with new traditions and recruits the breweries. When the beer is donated, a cap of ten tastes stretches every keg across more ticket holders. Popcorn and pretzels are cheap, so those go unlimited.

The committee recruits the same way. Anyone curious can sign up to help set up and break down at two beer tastes, then email the PNA volunteer coordinator if they want to keep going. The PNA also asks guests to thank the people running around in funny shirts. They're the hosts.

Three tickets, and only one of them is unlimited

The ticket tiers follow the same thinking. Prices below are as listed on the PNA event page for 2026.

Ticket Price Entry What's included
General Admission $65 7 p.m. 10 tastes, unlimited pub snacks, DJ, photobooth, games
VIP $85 6 p.m. Everything in GA, plus a 74th St Alehouse dinner, a glass tasting cup and time with the brewers
Just Here for the Party, GA $20 7 p.m. Unlimited N/A pours, unlimited pub snacks, full event access
Just Here for the Party, VIP $30 6 p.m. The above, plus early entry and the 74th St Alehouse dinner

The non-drinking ticket is the only one with no cap on pours. It costs less than a third of general admission and gets the same DJ, photobooth, games and snacks. Coming without drinking is the cheapest way in.

According to PhinneyWood, the VIP dinner is andouille sausage, red beans and rice from 74th St Alehouse, which the post calls an "infamous local taproom." The PNA says the dinner is there to balance out the high-ABV winter ales. PNA members get a discount code by email. The event is 21 and over, with no babies or dogs. As of PhinneyWood's October 22 post, tickets were still available and VIP tickets were limited. Tickets are sold through the PNA ticket page.

The beers that only exist that night

If you only have ten tastes, the ones you can't get anywhere else are the hardest to pass up. Both the PNA and PhinneyWood say some of this year's pours were brewed just for this event. The PNA's description of the VIP hour puts those brews next to "hang with the brewers." That makes the 6 p.m. entry the easiest time to find out which taps they're on.

Past years show what that looks like. For the 30th Winter Beer Taste in 2017, the Washington Beer Blog reported a PNA Porter brewed with committee members. It also listed collaboration beers from Georgetown, Flying Bike with Naked City, Reuben's and Rooftop. Georgetown, Flying Bike, Reuben's and Rooftop are all on the 2026 roster too. For the 2019 Stranger Things theme, the same blog listed Black Raven's "Stranger Thing Cask Beer" and Fremont's "Winter Beer Taste Edition."

The themes have changed every year, and so have the one-off beers. The Futurama theme comes with a space-themed photobooth. PhinneyWood says costumes are always encouraged but never required.

A plan for ten pours

With those limits and those tickets, here's one way to spend your evening:

  1. Make your shortlist at home. The full roster is public, so pick a few names you've never tried before you walk in.
  2. Use the VIP hour for the event-only brews if you bought VIP. Brewers are in the room, and the crowd is thinner before 7 p.m.
  3. Save a few tastes for something besides beer. Offset Ciderworks, Pinball Cider and Yonder Cider are all on the 2026 list.
  4. Eat between pours. The snacks are unlimited, and the Birrieria Pepe El Toro food truck is selling birria tacos.
  5. Keep an eye out for the cookie parade. PhinneyWood lists a "midnight cookie parade" alongside music from DJ Matt of KBFG, Greenwood's local radio station.

The rest of November at 6532 Phinney

The Beer Taste is one of several PNA gatherings this month at the same address, 6532 Phinney Ave N.

  • Saturday, November 7, 2 to 5 p.m. The PNA's free Día de los Muertos celebration has food, crafts, vendors, mariachi, folklórico and a procession.
  • Friday, November 20, 3 to 7 p.m. The Phinney Farmers Market comes back for a Fall Harvest Market in the upper parking lot, eight weeks after its regular season ended on September 25.
  • Thursday, November 26, 4 to 6 p.m. The PNA's Thanksgiving potluck is free and open to everyone. Guests are invited to bring a dish to share if they can.

The Winter Beer Taste also has a summer counterpart. This year's Summer Beer Taste was held on July 18.

I've worked with Seattle buyers and sellers since 2005, and to me the best parts of a neighborhood are traditions like this one, kept going by volunteers for almost four decades.
